EnCorps STEM Teachers Program

Currently, the fastest growing segment of the population is older adults (age 65+), who are also the healthiest, most active and best educated in our history. Added to this is the ever-increasing numbers of adults 60+ who are in an ideal position to act as mentors. They have a lifetime of experience in work and caring for family and also are striving for an enhanced sense of generativity as they age (Erikson, 1986). Historically, in many cultures, grandparents and other older adults naturally have played a key role in mentoring young people.

Sacramento High School is offering a wonderful opportunity for tutoring and mentoring in the EnCorps STEM Teachers Program.

Key eligibility requirements for STEM Expert Tutors:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) field
  • 3+ years STEM business/industry experience
  • Commitment to work 2+ hours/week with a Host Teacher in your subject field for at least one full semester of the school year

EnCorps tutors receive thorough and extensive training and support in strategies for working with teachers and students. They are matched up with one of the partner schools and Host Teachers who facilitate all aspects of their tutoring assignment.
