For the past 30 years AAA4 has administered the RSVP program in Nevada County. It has been a wonderful program, matching thousands of older volunteers with placements in the community. Non-profits, libraries and other county programs benefitted from the time that these wonderful volunteers donated. It is with sadness that we ended the RSVP program at the end of 2017.
This decision was purely a fiscal necessity. The grant that we received was not enough to administer the program without using precious general fund dollars. Nevada County is exploring starting a volunteer program that will be inclusive of all ages. We are hopeful that this will help fill the gap left my RSVP closing.
I want to acknowledge and thank our amazing volunteers who made this program such a success! I also want to acknowledge and thank Sara Morrison, the RSVP Project Director, who did a wonderful job running this program for many years. Additionally, we would not have been able to sustain the program as long as we did without the support of Nevada County. Lastly, I want to acknowledge Nancy Vasquez, AAA4’s Direct Services Administrator, for her advocacy and oversight of RSVP for many years.
AAA4 will continue to have an active role in Nevada County by providing Older Americans Act programs and other direct services, such as Mature Edge.
